There were two paths toward Boyana Waterfall. I went up the one marked as dangerous for inexperienced walkers, then used the easier path for the return.
The waterfall was still running, but winter had left its mark at the bottom. Water was falling into ice. I had not expected that meeting of movement and stillness, and it was lovely to see it in front of me.
Above the waterfall, there was a view I was glad I had climbed for too. On the way back, I passed Boyana Lake and let the outing settle into a quieter pace.
It was about eight kilometres altogether, with roughly six hundred and fifty metres of elevation gain. A lighter solo day by my usual numbers, with a waterfall I will remember for much longer than the distance.
